Salamanders It is that time of year again already. Spring is upon us all of the sudden with unbelievable temperatures and the chance of a nice "warm" rain. This is the catalyst for the salamanders to migrate from their winter homes to vernal and permanent pools of water to breed. Spotted salamanders are perhaps the most sought after as they are only active in a breeding phase for a few days then they move back to the woods to burrow in the ground again until next year. If you see any spotted salamander, they are black bodied with two rows of yellow to orange strips down their backs, please let me know as soon as possible. I would very much like to photograph as many species of salamanders as possible this season. The photo below is a long-tailed salamander. I think that he is quite handsome, don't you?
